Education Program

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

The Education Committee currently consists of 9 members of the Las Vegas Paiute Tribe. This is a volunteer committee.

The Committee meets on a monthly basis to review applications of financial aid for the members of the Las Vegas Paiute Tribe and its descendants. We award financial aid based on academic merit and maintaining a minimum GPA of 2.0. The financial aid pays for the students' tuition and books. We grant awards for Trade School, Summer School, Community College, Universities, and Academic Field trips. The Committee plans events for the Las Vegas Paiute Community. Some events include educational field trips such as touring the San Diego Zoo. We also host holiday parties for the members of the Tribe and their families. The Committee also donates their time towards fundraising efforts.

MEETINGS:

The Committee meets on a monthly basis, sometimes more based on need. The public is not allowed into meetings. Members of the Las Vegas Paiute Tribe are always allowed to sit in on meetings and voice opinions and concerns during open discussion.

ASSOCIATION ON AMERICAN INDIAN AFFAIRS:

In order to thrive, we need to be healthy, have a good education and be part of a strong and supportive community and culture.

For 88 years, AAIA has been working to promote these goals and provide the critical elements that Native American Indian children and families need to live happy, healthy and productive lives. Our programs focus upon youth/education (scholarships, child welfare, summer camps), health (diabetes education and prevention), cultural preservation (sacred lands protection, Native language preservation) and the empowerment of tribal communities (federal acknowledgement, funding for tribal programs). Please visit the rest of our website to learn more about our vital initiatives.
